PB62I Big Brake Kits
(315 - 350mm discs)
Our PB62I caliper was originally developed for rally/raid use. The brief was to design a heavy-duty 6-piston billet race caliper around a 20mm thick pad profile with a substantial surface area, while keeping the external caliper dimensions compact enough to fit within a 16 inch wheel. The result is an incredibly versatile caliper that features internal fluid crossovers (that eliminate the possibility of external crossover tubes being damaged by stones and rocks under off-road conditions), thick-wall scalloped stainless steel pistons (that reduce heat transfer to seals and fluid), heavy duty stainless steel pad abutments, heavy duty bridge pieces and completely recessed bleed screws (again for protection from flying stones and debris).
The PB62I caliper offers incredible strength, rigidity and durability in a very compact package. As with all Powerbrake calipers, ultra-high temperature pressure and wiper seals are used. The internal wiper seals protect the pressure seals from abrasion, hereby extending service life in even the most hostile off-road race environments. The configuration of our seals and seal groove profiles ensure that zero piston knock-back will be experienced, even when racing on heavily corrugated surfaces. The caliper fluid inlet port features high-tensile protective studs that reduce the chances of the brake hose fitting and banjo bolt being loosened or damaged by impact from stones or rocks.
Our PB62I caliper has been used with excellent results in rally/raid applications ranging from the ultra competitive ABSA Off Road Racing Championship in South African to the legendary Dakar Rally in South America. While originally designed for off road applications, our PB62I caliper has since been employed in a wide variety of other applications requiring a heavy duty, billet 6-piston race caliper - especially when space is a limiting factor.
The caliper is designed to be used with our GT Series, 2-piece discs in sizes 315x32 – 350x34mm. For rally/raid use, the disc assemblies would typically by supplied in semi-floating format, which allows for disc expansion and contraction without the risk of mud, sand and stones affecting axial float as is the case with full-floating systems when used in off-road race conditions. Our heavy duty, thick wall GT discs have shown excellent durability under off-road race conditions where thermal shock from water crossings and mud pools can result in premature cracking when thin wall rotor designs are employed.
The staggered cooling vane design used in our GT Series rotors increases cooling vane surface area by approx 40% over traditional curved vane designs, further reducing operating temperatures. Powerbrake GT Series rotors undergo multiple stress-relieving processes during manufacture, resulting in a very stable rotor and increased resistance to distortion and cracking.
Our PB62I calipers can be ordered in a wide range of different piston configurations allowing for brake balance, brake torque outputs and pedal travel to be specified to best match the target vehicle in question.
