PB42E Big Brake Kits
(Disc size dependent on application. Typically between 280 - 330mm)
Our PB42E compact 4-piston billet race caliper was designed for use on light - medium weight race cars and medium weight street and track day cars. The caliper shares the same aerospace grade billet aluminium construction as well as many of the design features that we use in our larger, more expensive PB44L and PB62E race calipers but is far more compact. While compact, this caliper features a unique internal strengthening system, making it one of the most rigid calipers in its class. Our PB42E caliper is the result of over a year of design and FEA analysis and is set to become our top-selling caliper - worldwide.
Note that our PB42E calipers are race-level products machined from solid aerospace-grade aluminium billet and not cheaper cast aluminium calipers as used in many OE applications and aftermarket big brake kits on the market. Cast-aluminium calipers will flex far more than billet calipers under heavy braking at high temperatures. As with all our big brake kits, each kit is tailored to the target vehicle in question. This involves careful software modeling of correct brake balance, brake torque outputs and pedal travel. The result is that the caliper piston diameters in each kit are specified to match the target vehicle in question. Brake balance with the kit is optimised to suite the ABS, EBD and other vehicle stability control systems.
The majority of our PB42E kits are supplied with larger diameter 1-piece GT Series rotors. In some cases, the kits can be ordered with our 2-piece, floating GT Series rotors on special order. Our GT Series discs are machined from a proprietary cast iron alloy for maximum friction co-efficient and durability. The discs undergo multiple stress-relieving processes during manufacture resulting in an extremely stable rotor casting that offers maximum resistance to distortion and cracking.
We machine or GT Series discs to extremely tight tolerances (up to three times tighter than the industry norm). Every single disc is measured for run out and disc thickness variation (DTV) using state-of-the-art CNC measuring equipment prior to packaging. We will not ship a disc with a run out value greater than 0.03mm or a DTV value greater than 0.005mm. This 100% CNC measuring policy is very rare in the industry and insures every single disc that we ship is perfect in terms of dimensional accuracy when it leaves our factory.
Our GT rotors feature a reverse slot pattern, which vents away friction gasses, de-glazes pads and positively affects bite and release characteristics. We use a ‘moderate’ number of slots based on the size of the rotor. Our slot patterns are technically optimized and not intended as cosmetics enhancements.
Other features include: Max Temperature Recording (MTR) paints (4-levels), Visual wear indicators, Dynamic balancing, Proprietary dry coating for quick bed-in and max friction co-efficient, Reverse slot pattern which is offset inboard/outboard to reduce unwanted harmonics under braking. Our GT discs are used to win a number of race championships both in SA and in our export markets every year.
Our PB42E big brake kits include:
- 2 x Powerbrake PB42E billet calipers with heavy duty stainless steel pistons.
- 2 x Powerbrake 1-Piece GT Series discs (280 - 330mm in diameter). In some cases 315-330mm 2-piece floating discs can be specified.
- 2 x 7075-T6 Billet caliper mounting brackets.
- 2 x Powerbrake DuraLine s/steel braided brake lines with grade-303 stainless steel fittings.
- Endless synthetic high-temperature brake fluid.
- All necessary mounting hardware.
- Comprehensive installation and bed-in instructions including assembly diagrams.
- The kit price excludes pads, which are quoted on separately depending on each customer's requirements. We can supply over 70 different high-performance street, crossover and competition pad compounds for our PB42E calipers.
