Heinz Bose - Team MFC Mazda Motorsport - relies on Powerbrake to drive to his best finish of the season

Round 10 of the 2008 Bridgestone Production Cars national race series was held at Kyalami International Race Circuit in Johannesburg on the 25th of October 2008. The day provided some of the most exciting racing of the season, especially in T-Class which is reserved for turbo-charged, front wheel drive, hot-hatches such as: Opel Astra OPC, Mazda 3 MPS (MazdaSpeed 3), Ford Focus ST, VW Golf 5 GTi, VW Polo GTi, SEAT Leon Cupra, Mini Cooper S, Renault Megane RS's etc.

 

During the second race of the day, Heinz Bose (Team MFC Mazda Motorsport), driving a Mazda 3 MPS, started at the back of the grid (due to a technical issue during race 1) and fought his way through to second place during the race (which in T-Class is a serious achievement!) before dropping back to finish 4th after a coming together with Team PG Glass's Ian Pepper in his VW Golf 5 GTi. You can see by the damage on the Mazda in the picture below that it was a tough race. Heinz admitted afterwards that he was extremely aggressive under braking throughout the race in order to achieve the result. The picture below tells the story of the resulting brake temperatures. Max front disc/rotor temps reached during the race were in the 800 - 900 deg C range and max caliper temps, recorded on the outboard face of the front calipers, were 245 deg C. Careful inspection of the discs/rotors and calipers after the race revealed no negative effects at all and the team will be using the exact same components for the next and final round of the series to be held at Killarney Race Circuit in Cape Town on the 15th of November.
