Powerbrake manufactures race discs for the Ferrari 360 Challenge

Powerbrake is proud to announce the supply of our 2-piece race discs for the Ferrari 360 Challenge race cars run by the Taurino Racing Team in the Altech Porsche Challenge race series. The 2-piece race disc design was originally developed for Powerbrake's Big Brake Kits, which also include Powerbrake's new cutting edge race calipers. The new range of Powerbrake Big Brake Kits is due to be launched into the SA market shortly and will be available for a range of popular performance cars. The disc friction rings used in our Ferrari 360 race discs are cast from the same alloy used in our championship-winning Die Hard Series discs and coated in a proprietary dry-coating, which ensures quick bed-in and maximum friction levels. Carefully calculated directional cooling vanes result in maximum airflow through the disc, resulting in lower operating temperatures under race conditions. The discs feature increased friction wall thickness leading to improved thermal stability and maximum durability at race temperatures. Testing has shown reductions in peak disc temperatures of 80 - 100 deg C over the standard discs.

The Powerbrake 2-piece design is comprised of an ultra-lightweight, aerospace grade aluminium center (hat) section, which is attached to the outer friction ring by means of a system of drive pins of Powerbrake's own design. The design allows the disc friction ring to expand up to 2mm in diameter, independent of the hat section of the disc (at temperatures in excess of 600 deg C). This allowance for radial expansion reduces stress and distortion in the disc at the extreme temperatures experienced during a race. The discs feature a similar reverse-slot pattern to that employed in our top-selling Pro Street Series discs, with the exception that the inboard/outboard slots are off-set to eliminate unwanted harmonics in the large 356 x 32mm front & 330 x 28mm rear Ferrari discs. The slots, de-glaze pad friction material, reduce brake fade and improve brake modulation - allowing the driver to brake on the limit, while minimising premature ABS intervention.

Taurino Racing also runs Hawk FerroCarbon race pads supplied by Powerbrake - using a combination of Hawk's HT10 and DTC60 compounds depending on the track in question and driver preference. Powerbrake is the official South African distributor for the internationally renowned range of Hawk FerroCarbon race pads.

If you've ever dreamed of driving a Ferrari Challenge race car under track conditions - you can. In addition to running their own race team, Taurino Racing provide individual, group or corporate 'driving experience' days, during which you get to drive Ferrari Challenge race cars, under professional instruction, in the controlled environment of a race track. If you are interested in this once in a lifetime experience - contact Oscar de Oliveira on 082 577 4219 or visit www.taurinoracing.co.za.

Powerbrake manufactures a large range of high-performance brake discs and brake upgrade kits for applications including street, track-day, race and 4x4 use. If you're looking to improve the performance and durability of the brakes on your car or 4x4 - contact us for more information.
