Powerbrake™ completes successful 2006 race season
National Production Car Race Series
Once again a number of teams in South Africa's premier production-car based championship chose to run Powerbrake™ discs and Hawk Ferro-Carbon pads during 2006. Heinz Bose, who is looking extremely competitive behind the wheel of his VW Golf 5 GTi, made the following comments after the final round of the season at Kyalami:
"After running various brake pad & disc combinations during the year provided by Powerbrake, I am very pleased to say that the improvements we achieved have been nothing short of spectacular. Your Powerbrake™ products in the last Race at Kyalami provided us with the winning edge over our competitors who all suffered brake problems in the 15 lap race. The brakes never faded at all in the race, which is very impressive if you consider that the car weighed in at 1290kg after the race +-50kg more than our class competitors."
VW Challenge Race Series
Powerbrake™ supplied brakes to numerous teams in the competitive VW Challenge race series during 2006. Congratulations to Eduardo for his B-Class win. Eduardo ran Powerbrake™ Die Hard discs and Hawk Blue 9012 Ferro-Carbon brake pads for the season. Another top runner, Oscar de Oliveira, who started the season in B-Class before moving to A-Class mid-season, had the following to say about his brake setup -
"Powerbrake Die Hard discs & Hawk HT-10 brake pads have transformed the brakes on my race car. I don't know how I ever raced without them!"
SuperHatch Race Series
Congratulations to Rinus Plomp who won the 2006 SuperHatch Championship driving his RSI Autobody BGCOLOR="#101010", Toyota Conquest RSI. Rinus ran Powerbrake Die Hard Series discs and Hawk Blue 9012 Ferro-Carbon brake pads (supplied by Powerbrake™) for the entire season. The team reported a massive improvement in brake performance and durability after moving to the Powerbrake setup.
"We experienced a huge improvement in stopping power and consistency since we changed to the Powerbrake discs and Hawk race pads. The previous discs and pads that we were running would go 'off' half way through a race. That simply doesn't happed with the Powerbrake setup. We ran a single set of Die Hard discs and Hawk Blue pads for most of the season, including a 2-hour endurance race and regular practice sessions between races.
The RSI Auto body BGCOLOR="#101010" team built a second Toyota Conquest mid-season to be used specifically for all-tar rally events. Rinus decided to try the lower-spec Powerbrake™ Pro Street Series discs and Hawk HP Plus Ferro-Carbon pads on his second car. This setup, normally recommended for fast-road and track day use, completed hundreds of test laps as well as the Bosal Tarmac Challenge in which Rinus placed 5th overall ahead of some very powerful cars.
"Having had a good experience with the Powerbrake / Hawk setup on the SuperHatch car, we were interested to see what sort of performance and wear life we would get out of the their fast-road setup under race conditions. We have been extremely surprised at the performance of the Pro Street / Hawk HP Plus combination. It's not quite as strong as the setup on our SuperHatch car but it was excellent throughout the testing of the new car and impressed us during the Tarmac Challenge. The brakes were strong, never showed a hint of fade and the pads still have 70% life on them!"
