New product release – Subaru WRX, STI, Forester XT – Big Brake
Kit
Powerbrake has released a single, race-spec, big brake kit that
fits all Subaru Impreza WRX, STI and Forester XT models running
original 17” wheels from ’99 - current. The front kit includes: 2 x
330x32mm Powerbrake GT-Series 2-piece floating staggered-vane discs,
2 x Powerbrake PB44L billet aluminium 4-piston calipers, 2 x
aircraft grade billet aluminium mounting brackets, 2 x front s/steel
braided brake lines, 2 x bottles of Motul RBF600 synthetic race
brake fluid and all necessary mounting hardware. The kit is designed
for simple bolt-on installation, fits within the OEM 17” wheels and
requires no wheel spacers or permanent modifications to the vehicle.
The discs and calipers featured in the kit are identical to the
components that Powerbrake currently supplies to leading National
Production Car race teams including: Team Mazda Motorsport (Mazda 3
MPS T-Class) and Team Afrox (BMW 330i A-Class). The discs have been
extensively tested to temperatures of over 850 deg C, while the
calipers have been run to 280 deg C under race conditions without
failure.
Powerbrake’s PB44L calipers feature separate pad-per-piston
technology, in which each caliper piston has its own short brake
pad. This reduces the tapered pad wear issues commonly associated
with multi-piston calipers and allows for a substantially stiffer
caliper design and a firmer, more consistent pedal feel. The GT-Series
2-piece floating discs are designed in such a way that the discs can
expand and contract by up to 2mm in diameter, under extreme brake
conditions, independent of the lightweight billet aluminium disc
hats, hereby substantially reducing disc stresses and related
cracking.
Caliper piston sizes are carefully matched to the master cylinder on
the target vehicle using custom written software. This ensures
optimum brake balance, pedal feel and complete compatibility with
ABS, EBD and all other vehicle stability control systems.
While the components in this kit have been designed to withstand
the extreme braking conditions encountered by professional race
teams, the calipers do feature full internal dust/weather seals
making them ideal for extended road use as well.
Kit prices quoted below exclude pads, which will be quoted on
separately based on the compound best suited to the customer’s
intended usage. Powerbrake can spec this kit with numerous different
pad compound options, ranging from fast-road to full works-race
compounds to suite the needs of any Subaru Impreza owner.
